FCC Releases Local Telephone Competition Report as of June 30, 2006 (Click here to view the entire FCC PDF Report)

Using information from FCC 477 Reports, the FCC released on January 31, 2007, the annual Local Telephone Competition Report . The FCC reported that end-user customers obtained local telephone service by using 142m ILEC lines, 29.8m CLEC lines, and 217m mobile subscriptions. Of the 29.8m CLEC lines, 6m lines were provided over coax representing 56% of the CLEC 10.7m end-user lines provided over CLEC owned local loop facilities. Mobile providers' 217.4m subscribers was 25.4m, or 13%, more than the prior year. Seven percent of the mobile subscribers were with resellers.

The 29.8m CLEC lines reported is 17% of the 172m total lines. CLECs reported 12.4m or 12% of the 104.8m lines serving residential end users and 17m or 26% of the 67.2m lines serving business customers.

CLECs provided 36% of the lines over CLEC owned local loop facilities, 42% using unbundled network elements (UNEs), and 22% through resale arrangements with unaffiliated carriers. ILECs provided 22% fewer - 8.4m compared to 10.8m - UNE loops with UNE-P than the prior six months and 1% fewer UNE loops or 4.4m compared to 4.5m.
